The Demise of the Corporate WAN

And the rise of the cloud-based network.

In 2008, in the article titled: “Cloud computing: End of the corporate WAN?” NetworkWorld asked the interesting and significant question: Why have a WAN when I have the cloud?” The article questioned the long term viability of corporate WANs vs the ubiquitous connectivity that cloud could provide. 

In 2013 the question was raised again by NetworkComputing in the article: “WAN & The Cloud: Let The Transformation Begin”. This time tangible examples were available of new vendors that offer actual alternatives to the traditional corporate WAN. The article had a simple but true piece of advice: “If you’re not investigating those offerings, you should be.”
