Performance Hub Brings the Cloud in Reach for the Enterprise

The Performance Hub is an extension of a company’s existing network into an Equinix data center.

All the IT trends point toward rapid growth in cloud computing, and that’s an exciting change that’s loaded with opportunity. But some enterprises aren’t sure how to move ahead. Equinix has introduced the Equinix Performance Hub to bring the enterprise a step closer to the cloud.

The Performance Hub is an extension of a company’s existing network into an Equinix data center. It allows an enterprise to connect its wide area network or private cloud to the Equinix network, where it can directly connect to the public cloud. The result is robust, optimized and geographically-distributed networks that prepare the enterprise network for future growth.

Because growth is coming.

Cloud computing allows businesses to save money and gain agility by replacing physical computing equipment – servers, computers and the like – with software-created virtual equivalents.  Cloud growth is being driven by several factors, including the increasing popularity of cloud-based applications and the expansion of mobility (Cisco says mobile data traffic will increase 11-fold between 2013 and 2018). Cisco predicts global cloud IP traffic will more than quadruple between 2012 and 2017.

As the cloud becomes more important, companies with limited cloud experience are unsure how to get to it with a secure, distributed and scalable network infrastructure.

That’s where Performance Hub comes in.

By establishing an extension node of its network inside and Equinix International Business Exchange ™ (IBX®), an enterprise can connect directly to a choice of 950 networks and 450 cloud providers already inside Equinix. It can also link its network to its branch offices and headquarters from inside Equinix, via high speed local loop or Ethernet connectivity.

This consolidation of its wide area network and cloud connections at an Equinix Performance Hub allows an enterprise to dramatically reduce response times for business-critical applications. It also makes it easier to deliver the consistent performance customers expect, especially since IBX data centers are broadly distributed and can locate enterprises close to end users just about anywhere.

As it launches Performance Hub, Equinix is offering various services to help an enterprise maximize an investment in the Performance Hub and deploy the right infrastructure.

The Equinix Validation Design (EVD) program gives customers reference architectures and validated performance benchmarks of commonly used on-premise and cloud applications. Customers can also test Performance Hub proof-of-concept deployments at select locations. That service is free for a limited time.

Equinix also offers Equinix Consulting Services (ECS), which is staffed with experts who answer questions and solve problem customers have throughout deployment. ECS customers can receive a detailed, individually-tailored technical architecture and business case for Performance Hub.

For now, Performance Hub is available only in North America, but it will be available worldwide later this year.

Equinix (Nasdaq: EQIX) is the world's digital infrastructure company, enabling digital leaders to harness a trusted platform to bring together and interconnect the foundational infrastructure that powers their success. Equinix operates a global interconnection platform of more than 200 International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers in 63 metros across 26 countries.
