Options Innovation

Straight from the OIC 2014 in Austin, Texas.  Markets Media's Terry Flannagain examines the latest innovations, structural and technical, that are evident in the options industry.

It’s commonly accepted among market participants and market operators that innovation is vital for the health of the options market. Innovation can bring in new market participants and incent existing players to trade more, both of which deepen liquidity.

But views can diverge as to what constitutes innovation. Exchange operators tend to define innovation broadly and say the industry is highly innovative, but some market participants take a narrower definition and note that just because something is new or different, that alone doesn’t mean it adds value.
