IT Has to Take Control of the Cloud Eventually - Here's How It Can

Even though 90% of organizations use some form of cloud computing, many IT departments are still completely stumped when it comes to proper cloud implementation.

If Search Cloud Computing’s Alex Barrett is to be believed, we’re nearing the end of an era. Up to this point, we’ve seen business units within enterprise granted more or less unregulated access to public cloud resources. We’ve seen cloud infrastructure provisioned freely and readily to anyone who requested it.

According to Barrett, that has to change. Truth be told, he’s not wrong about that. Even though 90% of organizations use some form of cloud computing, many IT departments are still completely stumped when it comes to proper cloud implementation.

As a result, too many of them have taken entirely hands-off approach. They’ve stumbled through the complexities of cloud adoption, then left things to more or less run themselves. More and more, however, people are starting to realize why this is a bad idea.

The past year alone has seen some of the most immense, high-profile data breaches in history. Businesses across the board are finding themselves embroiled in a managerial nightmare, realizing too late that their budget has been siphoned into the red by over-provisioning. It’s clear that something needs to change, but many aren’t entirely certain what.
