Watch Out Virginia, Here Comes One Marketplace!  If you were asked for a list of America’s biggest technology centers, places like Silicon Valley, Seattle and New York would probably be among the top. Ashburn, VA, on the other hand, might not have immediately popped into your mind. In actuality, though, the location should hold a front and center spot on your countdown—here’s why.

Ashburn has been a key connectivity hub since the early days of the Internet. 2012 groundbreakings, facility openings and leases make it clear that Ashburn’s prominent place in the geography of the data center industry continues undiminished.  Ashburn is well-known in the technology community as a hotbed for cloud connectivity services to some of the largest telecom networks in the world.  Money Magazine ranked Ashburn No. 29 on its list of America’s “Best Places to Live” due in large part to its status as a technology hub. In its blurb, the magazine stated that “even if you’ve never been to Ashburn, chances are, some of your data has…the area is home to data centers like Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft.”

With the area’s reputation in mind, Global Capacity revealed the opening of an all-new Ashburn Point of Presence (PoP) for its One Marketplace platform. One Marketplace combines an interconnected, physical network aggregation platform with a cloud application that automates the design, pricing, delivery and maintenance of network solutions. The new PoP—located at Filigree Ct. in Equinix's data center—follows the December, 2013 opening of Global Capacity’s San Jose location.

"With the new hub in Ashburn, One Marketplace offers businesses in the Washington, D.C. area a broad range of service attributes to meet network transport needs for voice, data, storage and video applications, " said Ben Edmond, Chief Revenue Officer of Global Capacity in a statement.

Noted in the statement, Alcatel-Lucent’s Bell Labs released the results of a survey indicating that data traffic on metropolitan access and aggregation access will increase 560 percent by 2017. The study further revealed that data center traffic will grow 440 percent in the same time period, with video traffic exploding at an astounding 720 percent.

These kinds of statistics are the driving force behind the continued expansion of One Marketplace. To learn more about network services, click here.
