U.S. Equities Market Share

  • Share volumes traded across Tape A, B, and C totaled 110 billion shares, a decrease of 12.4% monthly, and decrease of 8.5% annually.
  • NYSE-listed securities share volume was 58.2 billion shares, a decrease of 12.8% monthly and decrease of 10.4% annually.
  • Share volume in NASDAQ-listed securities was 33.5 billion shares, a 15.5% monthly decrease and 0.9% annual increase.

U.S. Equity Options Market Share

  • The top 3 market centers (PHLX, CBOE, NYSE AMEX) made up 51.8% of the total cleared contracts.
  • The total number of cleared contracts decreased 16% monthly to 171.2 million, which is a 3.4% decrease on an annual basis. PHLX cleared 33.7 million contracts this month, which is a 9% decrease on a monthly basis.
  • Total premiums in August 2014 were $41.3 billion, an 8.2% decrease from last month. PHLX total premiums increased 34.1% on a monthly basis. On an annual basis, total premiums decreased 15.3%.

European Equity Market Share

  • The notional value of the European Equities Market decreased 17% monthly to €844 billion, which is a 4.2% increase from last year.
  • LSE Group had the greatest market share, with 21.9% (€191.3 billion) followed by BATS CHI-X Europe and Euronext, which had market shares of 17.9% (€161.8 billion) and 12.4% (€109.4 billion) respectively
